intense and emotional
submitted by camelsamba on June 19, 2015, 7:58pm
Hard to rate this one. The story is powerful for the emotional lessons - the meaning of family and friendship; the bonds that tie us to one another; what makes people civilized and humane. But it is also very intense and a bit overwhelming at times (not surprising, given the setting!), and the ending was a bit too neatly tied up.
I originally got it for my own Zane to read, but he was put off by the subject matter. As it turns out, it would not have been his cup of tea even though he likes realistic fiction - this is hyper-realistic and not for the sensitive soul.
