In this memoir, he brilliantly describes the trip he made to his hometown, Pointe-Noire, after more than two decades of absence. Both his mother and father have died but many relatives, friends, and acquaintances rejoice at his return. As he revisits the many hearths and landmarks of his childhood, his current-day observations are flooded with long-buried memories from his joy-filled and poverty-stricken past.
