If you love watching musicians create something from nothing submitted by ccrose on August 29, 2019, 11:43am A documentary of the famous concert led by Sting and the finest young jazz musicians. There’s footage of them trying an idea, ditching it, another take, another. That’s creativity on the hoof.
Stings wife Trudy gave birth days before the concert. A tender interlude.
Then the concert! Brandon Marsalis, Daryl Jones, Kenny Kirkland, Omar Hakim on great drums., Dollete McDonald and Janis Pendarvis sing backup.
The buildup of energy of a live performance is in there. I swoon over the chanting “I Burn for You” when Hakim goes ballistic on the drums as the peak energies spill .
It was a big experiment, that jazz with Sting’s songs and it was a creative question mark but I love it!!
