In the haunted house (topic: sound) -- Going batty (topic: bats) -- Spins a web (topic: spiders) -- Bonus episode: The magic school bus flexes its muscles.
Lily Tomlin, Daniel DeSanto, Erica Luttrell, Maia Filar, Tara Meyer.
Three episodes of the Emmy Award-winning animated science-adventure series based on the best-selling books. In "The haunted house", the class has an upcoming concert at an old, spooky mansion filled with mysterious sounds. In "Going batty", as they learn about bats, the gang is convinced The Friz is a vampire. And in "Spins a web", Ms. Frizzle transports the class into a 1950s horror movie where a praying mantis is wreaking havoc on the town.
The kids are all ears as they explore the musical mysteries of sound during a spooky trip Inside the Haunted House! Next, things really start going batty when a lesson about nocturnal creatures convinces Ralphie that Ms. Frizzle is a vampire! Finally, the kids are zapped into a monster movie, where they discover the ingenious hunting skills of spiders as Scholastic's The Magic School Bus spins a web!
DVD; region 1, NTSC; full screen (1.33:1) presentation; Dolby digital surround stereo.
COMMUNITY REVIEWS
good submitted by .-.-.-. on July 13, 2020, 1:36pm Lots of action, very exciting and funny! Lots of adventure, highly recommended.
Title Checks Out submitted by Meginator on June 30, 2023, 11:10pm This dvd includes four episodes from the classic Magic School Bus series, focusing on sound, bats, spiders, and body movement. The first three episodes, each with loose (and kid-friendly) horror themes, lend the collection a sense of consistency, and the final episode feels connected as well, given the students’ attempts to create an independently moving robot (although it isn’t exactly Frankenstein’s monster). Each story follows the same general plot progression, with Ms. Frizzle and her class taking a field trip that inevitably devolves into an outlandish adventure that imparts various scientific lessons about the subject of the week which later become relevant as the students get themselves out of their amusing predicaments. Yet despite the structural similarities and recurring jokes, each episode has its own unique charm; different students take center stage across these stories, allowing their distinct personalities to shine through in ways that effectively illuminate the subjects at hand while keeping the show fundamentally entertaining even as it is highly informative. Despite its age and its didactic nature, this is still a highly entertaining series that packs a lot of information into a small, memorable package.
