Sweet Christmas Tale submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 9:35pm This book is built around a familiar message (namely, be careful what you wish for) and adapts it to the Christmas season, as a boy who keeps wishing for a larger Christmas gift eventually comes to realize the importance of what he already has. Reynolds escalates the scale to an extreme point that is surprisingly sentimental in a book that trades primarily in absurd humor, but it works. The tone of the text provides a bit of levity in balance with the book’s ultimate message and offers some room for interpretation in a read-aloud context. This is a sweet story, if ever so slightly cloying, with just a touch of humor and a solid lesson at its core.
