A Touch of Christmas Magic submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 9:20pm This picture book feels autobiographical, although it has a slight touch of magic to it that is fitting for the Christmas season. Soaked in nostalgia and possessing a relatively large proportion of text to pictures, this book is best for slightly older readers or readers who are particularly interested in historical stories. The story itself covers the entire Christmas season, with a gentle moral that fits in seamlessly as the book progresses, and the accompanying drawings have a lot of detail and a handmade quality to them with their inclusion of extensive pencil lines. This is a more sophisticated picture book, but, like most (if not all) of Polacco’s work, it is inherently comforting and has a slightly whimsical quality to it that feels just magical enough to be undoubtedly real.
