A Fitting Sequel submitted by pej08 on July 17, 2015, 5:47pm I'm assuming that you're interested in this movie I'm assuming it's because you saw, and enjoyed, the first RED movie. Like the first in the franchise, RED 2 balances fun action sequences with humor. Although neither the humor nor the action is overwhelmingly original, both are enjoyable, especially as mixed in the movie. The characters seemed a little bit more flat in the first, although I still really enjoyed John Malkovich as the paranoid Marvin, definitely a highlight of the movie. The plot was interesting enough, and so I recommend this movie and suggest that it's worth the time to sit down and watch it, although I probably won't do so again.
Unnecessarily Complicated But Okay submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 10:37pm Though this film isn’t as delightfully surprising as Red, it has many of the same strengths and offers a similarly fun, relatively breezy cinematic experience. The star-studded cast make the most of their roles with wary charisma that works well for the type of ironic humor that creates the general tone, with John Malkovich’s dry, paranoid Marvin absolutely delightful. The plot itself is unnecessarily complicated, with an excessive number of twists and multiplying antagonists, but the main narrative beats offer enough of a framework to keep things moving along. The set-piece action sequences are equal parts ridiculous and satisfying, the explosions are satisfying, and the film doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s imperfect, but it works, even if it’s not quite as smooth, surprising, or entertaining as its predecessor.
