Very Average Holiday Content submitted by Meginator on August 1, 2022, 3:35pm A Garfield collection including both the Halloween and Christmas holidays should be exceptional, but the strips surrounding both of these seasons miss the mark somewhat (despite a nice Halloween Day Sunday strip), which feels appropriate for a collection that sits firmly in the comic’s wheelhouse without daring to do anything particularly interesting. The book does include a lot of weekly themes, which help make the strip enjoyable in larger doses and (somewhat unexpectedly) keeps it from becoming too repetitive. This is fairly tried-and-true territory for Garfield, with enough of what makes the strip appealing in the first place but little that is truly interesting or memorable. It’s fine.
