Read by Cassandra Campbell.
"With a career, a boyfriend, and a loving family, Piper Kerman barely resembles the reckless young woman who delivered a suitcase of drug money ten years ago. But that past has caught up with her. Convicted and sentenced to fifteen months at the infamous federal correctional facility in Danbury, Connecticut, the well-heeled Smith College alumna is now inmate #11187-424-- one of the millions of women who disappear 'down the rabbit hole' of the American penal system. From her first strip search to her final release, Kerman learns to navigate this strange world with its strictly enforced codes of behavior and arbitrary rules, where the uneasy relationship between prisoner and jailer is constantly and unpredictably recalibrated. She meets women from all walks of life, who surprise her with small tokens of generosity, hard words of wisdom, and simple acts of acceptance. Heartbreaking, hilarious, and at times enraging, Orange Is the New Black offers a rare look into the lives of women in prison, why it is we lock so many away, and what happens to them when they're there" -- from publisher's web site.

Great submitted by lawrencekl57 on August 21, 2014, 2:57pm I've never wanted to have more errands to run just so that I could listen to a BOCD! I'm really enjoying it - it is a bit different from the series, so I'm learning things that I didn't know from watching the show.

Good thing I watched the show first. submitted by lisa on August 20, 2015, 9:34am The most absorbing part of this memoir for me was discovering more and more ways its narrator is obnoxiously full of herself, narcissistic, humblebraggy irritating, put-upon by a sense of being victimized, and delighted by her privilege at the same time she pays lip service to being outraged by the injustice of the systems that give it to her. Oy!

Piper is annoying submitted by Aimless on August 5, 2019, 3:29pm Piper is annoying, For anyone who loves the show, they will find this book lacking
