A military space probe, sent to collect extraterrestrial organisms from the upper atmosphere, is knocked out of orbit and falls to Earth. Twelve miles from the crash site, an inexplicable and deadly phenomenon terrorizes the residents of a sleepy desert town in Arizona, leaving only two survivors: an elderly addict and a newborn infant.

Fantastic Novel submitted by trobertz on September 3, 2013, 3:33pm “The Andromeda Strain” is my favorite among the six or seven Michael Crichton novels that I have read to date. It immediately came to mind when the AIDS epidemic was first coming to light in the early 1980s. I highly recommend it.

wonderful! submitted by KOH on August 30, 2017, 9:56pm I love this older Crichton book.

Classic Chrichton submitted by mmohal on July 17, 2021, 8:21am Very relevant considering the events of 2020. I always love the way Chrichton crafts a novel that is complete science fiction but it's written so well that it all sounds plausible. He does an excellent job weaving in fiction with reality.
