"In [the] 21st-century literary world, wit and conversation are not at all dead. Is romance? Novelist Adelle Waldman plunges into the psyche of a modern man--who thinks of himself as beyond superficial judgment, yet constantly struggles with his own status anxiety, who is drawn to women, yet has a habit of letting them down"--Dust jacket flap.

Okay submitted by KOH on August 28, 2017, 8:19pm I wasn't a big fan of the main character. Just ok.

A breezy satire of New York literary intelligentsia submitted by foilista on June 18, 2023, 8:21pm Waldman's book is a readable romantic comedy that zips by. It's also a scathing - and frequently hilarious - satire of New York literary culture and its gender politics. Waldman does a great job with characters and dialogue. Get ready to hate the main character!
