. submitted by SoapyCupcaketoeNaIL on June 18, 2021, 9:57pm nice!

Disappointing, will not finish submitted by alotofaxolotl on March 11, 2023, 11:20am I read quite a few mystery/thrillers translated from Finnish, Icelandic and placed in Scandinavia. Sometimes the writing is a bit stilted and that may be the translation. However, this specific book is annoying me as a (female) reader. The female characters are shallowly depicted. It's a very male protagonist view. There is also some fixation on skin color of Indigenous people in Australia (the book setting) that feels uncomfortable to read. There is one drag queen character introduced so far whose depiction is very stereotypical. I'm not finding this enjoyable enough to finish. I won't be reading more of his books.

Meh submitted by curiousliz on June 9, 2023, 7:49pm Moderately entertaining as a thriller but the story meanders (often for no discernible reason) and the gender and racial stereotypes are jarring.
