struggle? submitted by JohnMcCauley on December 19, 2014, 11:41am The title of this memoir is misleading. It is a monster book one of six from a transcript of 2400 pages. Yet it is readable and engaging as I followed the movements of the narrator on my Google maps through Norway and Sweden from his driving lessons, marriages, birth of children to dealing with old and dying parents. Rather than being My Struggle by A Hitler, is the struggle of every person although in a different place and time. I liked the first book or section best because of issues immediate in my life. The following books reflected on past issues not current ones and were less engaging for me. There's something for everyone here. One only needs to make the time and find an appropriate place to have a rewarding experience.
Fantastic introspective, relatable work submitted by EJZ on June 24, 2018, 9:46am This book, really just the first chapter in the "My Struggle" novel, is a revelation. For those who love language, or "creative nonfiction," My Struggle is a must-read. Though there are sections which read a little slow, finishing this certainly feels less like reading a novel, and more like an earnest conversation with yourself about your life's moments of deepest shame, fear, and beauty. There's lots to relate to here, and as mundane as the subject matter is, Knausgaard makes it read like new literary territory.
