In July 1969, the space race ended when Apollo 11 fulfilled President Kennedy's space challenge. No one who witnessed the lunar landing will ever forget it. The story of the twenty-four men who traveled to the moon, told in their words, in their voices, using the images of their experiences. Forty years after the first moon landing it remains the most radical, earthshaking event.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A Must for Apollo Mission History submitted by Meginator on August 20, 2022, 6:05pm This documentary pairs original footage from NASA’s Apollo missions with audio from retrospective interviews with many of the original astronauts, crafting a rich and philosophically minded history of lunar exploration that consistently places the astronauts themselves at the center of the story. Their perspectives are fascinating and contain the benefit of having had time for deep reflection on what they accomplished, giving the documentary a sense of weight that feels natural instead of imposed. The film does mash up footage and audio from several missions without clearly labeling the video or the speakers, but this has the effect of presenting the program as a whole instead of concentrating on some of the more famous missions (which do, at any rate, have their own moments in the spotlight), which is an unusual perspective given the subject matter. The dual focus on original footage and later reflection makes this an excellent documentary for anyone interested in the history of space exploration.
