3.5 stars submitted by klickitat on July 26, 2013, 2:29pm This book was alternately empowering and depressing, mostly the latter. Glad Matchar ended the book with some "lessons." Skimmed some chapters toward the end because I found them repetitive. It will be interesting to see what happens to this generation of opt-outers in middle age... Lots of food for thought!

very interesting submitted by airgood on July 25, 2014, 1:24pm I thought this book was going to be far more shallow and one-sided than it is. Matchar covers several elements of the New Domesticity and examines its gender, class, and societal implications. It's a very easy read despite being poorly edited/repetitive in some sections. I think her overall examination of different perspectives is worthwhile.
