COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Galveston, oh Galveston submitted by camelsamba on June 20, 2016, 7:34pm Ruby take more of the lead in this story. I enjoyed the Ruby-focused chapters (even though Claire was not very likable, and Ruby's interaction with her likewise unpleasant at times). I also liked the chapters focused on historical Galveston. (I picked this up for the Galveston connection. My husband's maternal grandmother was born on the mainland during hurricane -- her family lived on the island and I'm not sure why they were not there during storm. I was under the impression they'd been warned to evacuate, but that clearly didn't happen.) In addition, I appreciated how the historical and the modern were interwoven. I'm a skeptic (like China!) so the Rachel-Colleen-Ruby connection seems like the stuff of pure fiction, but I did enjoy imagining this whole book (or at least the Galveston chapters) as Claire's task.

The China chapters annoyed me as usual - all that first person "if you go here, make sure you do X" nonsense. There's a reason I don't follow this series any more!
