In Victorian London, Albert Garrick, an assassin-for-hire, and his reluctant young apprentice, Riley, are transported via wormhole to modern London, where Riley teams up with a young FBI agent to stop Garrick from returning to his own time and using his newly acquired scientific knowledge and power to change the world forever.

WARP submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 19, 2013, 10:33am In what promises to be the beginning of a fun new series, Eoin Colfer introduces Riley, the pre-teen apprentice to a 19th century assassin, and FBI Agent Chevron Savano, 17. Savano was sent to London to babysit what turns out to be a time machine after flubbing her last assignment in Los Angeles.

Riley is an orphan whose teachers has told him he must kill this new target or the teacher will kill Riley. Savano is also an orphan, which is how she ended up working as an agent at such a young age, having been recruited into a special program. Of course, not everything works out as planned, so Riley and his teacher end up in the 21st century and Savano must rescue the boy.

Savano is of Shoshone descent, making her one of only a few Native American characters in science fiction.

The book is science fiction but nonetheless demands that the reader suspend a lot of disbelief as the rules of time travel make no sense but the enemy has turned into a superhuman.

WARP: The Reluctant Assassin submitted by Kitty001 on July 5, 2017, 5:47pm This is a great book of a great series. Experienced and talented sci-fi writer Eoin Colfer is at it again! I would recommend this book to anyone who has liked his other books, or to someone who is interested in a solid, entertaining read.
