Exceptional Blend of Traditional and Pop Country submitted by Meginator on July 24, 2019, 9:27am I love this style of country music, which looks to pop influences in its construction but maintains a distinctive twang in the instrumentation and the vocals. Ashley Monroe’s songs are strikingly personal but leave room for a little (often ironic) humor, giving the album emotional depth without making it too heavy; she gets the balance perfectly right. The tracks are memorable and catchy without being cloying, and they effortlessly bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary country in a way that few artists convincingly manage. Monroe’s work feels effortless and honest, and this album is an exceptional example of strong songwriting with a solidly grounded soul to it.
