Classic Disney, Classic 1950's Racism submitted by bchapman630 on July 15, 2013, 12:11pm While I understand this is a classic Disney favorite and I do appreciate that, I feel like there are so many racially insensitive undertones, musical pieces and animations that I have a hard time recommending it to families with children who are not old enough to talk to them about what is happening. I don't think my 4 year old is ready for it.

Magical but also cringe-worthy submitted by FordAlpha on August 25, 2019, 9:41pm Disney's "Peter Pan" is full of magic, whimsy, and memorable music. It's also full of racist tropes. The "Indian" scenes, particularly the big musical number "What Makes the Red Man Red", make me cringe. Yes, it's a product of its time, but kids of any time will soak up the attitudes and stereotypes that they're exposed to. Parents should be prepared to address this with their kids while enjoying the fun, magical aspects of this classic film.
