Surprising! submitted by crazypockets on June 21, 2013, 1:53pm I am not a Hemingway fan, but I was intrigued by the description of this enough to check it out. I wound up really enjoying it. I thought it was really fascinating to see the approach to war reporting at that time. It was also a good character study of Hemingway and Gellhorn, and I thought their relationship was intense and interesting to watch. She was the only woman ever to divorce him, and I liked how she didn't put up with any of his nonsense. I liked how it showed his intense need to prove how masculine he was, almost to the point where you felt a little sorry for him because he was obviously compensating for something that wasn't right in his life. More though, I thought this was about Gellhorn's character, and I found myself really inspired by and in admiration of a woman who I never knew as anything but a footnote to his life...the exact opposite of how she wanted to be (and should be) remembered.
