not very good

I was very excited about this new book. I own the author's previous book, and it is excellent. The recipes in her previous book are no fail and spot-on with measurements and flavors. This new books seems to have been rushed. I have tried the brownie recipe and the New York coffee cake recipe and both were terrible. The brownies had way too much oil and the coffee cake had way to much topping--I hope/suspect it is a typo. Many of the recipes are filler like pie crust and cobbler or are repeats of previous recipes. Overall, a great disappointment.

Oh, Chloe! Your desserts are so fabulous! I made the Bollywood cupcakes (saffron in the cake, cardamom in the frosting) two weeks ago and the Salted Caramel cupcakes last week in their gluten-free forms - both were really good. The Salted Caramel ones even passed inspection with a non-gluten-free non-vegan! The cupcakes are really quite delicate so make sure you don't overfill your liners, otherwise there won't be enough support to keep them from collapsing. Also, I generally find that I can halve the frosting recipe and still have enough to frost a full batch of cupcakes (a goodly sized shmear, but not a mountain of frosting like on the cover!).

Update: I tried making the chocolate chip cookies. Failed miserably. They tasted fine, but they came out flatter than a pancake. Also didn't get great results with the Vermont Maple Cookies, but I'm willing to partly blame that on the kind of maple syrup I used. However, the Pumpkin Whoopie Pies are AMAZING!!
