I was first introduced to "off the beaten path" books in the 90s when planning a European vacation. I relied extensively on the series and I felt like they delivered unique and relatively unknown destinations. I didn't get the same feeling for this Colorado guide - for example, it lists "Crepes ala Cart" in Breckenridge, which is super popular - smack dab in the center of the highway, to continue the metaphor. By contrast, there was a crepes cart/truck a few blocks away that rarely had a line - was it that much worse? Also, the coverage of winter elements seemed lacking, so that may color my impression - perhaps it is better if you are visiting in the summer.
