better than book 5 submitted by camelsamba on June 15, 2018, 10:06pm During the summer, I listened to book 5 in this series and declared that I was done with Maggie Hope. Apparently I forgot to tell my overdrive account - I had this title on hold and "automatic checkouts" enabled. But it worked out okay, because I enjoyed this story considerably more than Mrs Roosevelt's Confidante. It's not perfect by any means: the pacing is off at times, the timing was hard to follow, one section sounded like it was just wholesale copy-paste of Churchill's speeches, and (in my opinion) one of the plot lines (the whole "Paul" conspiracy) could have been removed completely. But I'm not the type to over-analyze a book I enjoy in the moment. Since I was left satisfied and interested in reading more at the end, I will give it four of five stars.

In this book, Maggie does actual code-breaking and it is integral to the plot - although that aspect is impossible to follow in an audiobook (think long strings of numbers - or was it letters? either way, hard to follow). If I read the second book, I will switch to paper since it looks like code-breaking might be integral. Plus then I can avoid my other chief complaint with the audiobook: I still don't like Doneta Peters voice/accent for Maggie.

Fun novel with plenty to learn submitted by rowleygray on July 10, 2018, 12:38pm The Maggie Hope book 1 is filled with a good story and historical characters to learn more about England in the early days of WW ll. Great read for those who like historical fiction.

great summer series submitted by our family books on August 19, 2018, 8:08am This Maggie Hope mystery book in the series is a great summer read. There is interesting information about code breaking and a few details about historical events.
