very satisfying Zombie-esque thrill fest submitted by hathaway1066 on August 1, 2013, 6:41pm Though this book is original, it will also remind you of other stories: the movie, "28 Days", "Lord of the Flies", and (maybe this is stretching it a bit, but...) "The Mote in God's Eye".

Basic plot is, a disease turns anyone over the age of 16 into a zombie-like beast that will viscously attack (and eat) anything--but especially those under the age of 16. A group of school kids in England head to London, despite attacks by various 'sickos'.

Every time I thought I'd reached a point where I could take a break for and go do something else, like a roller coaster ride, events would whoosh down into some new, dramatic, twisting plot turn. Very satisfying, in that regard.

Parts of it sometimes seemed a bit 'thin': young kids seemed to be a bit more grown-up than I'd say was possible/likely, though at other times they continued to act a bit too simplistically given what they'd been through (mere moments after an encounter with a pack of sickos, bratty girls were acting like stock characters out of 'To Sir With Love').

Still--if you're a fan of zombie lit, this is worth your time.

[on edit--apparently this is something like a prequel to 'The Enemy' by the same author, but I don't know that book so can't say how it relates.]
