Interesting Graphic Novel Anthology submitted by PizzaPuppy on July 10, 2014, 12:44pm "Explorer: The Mystery Boxes" is a collection of short stories by several different comic authors (including the authors of 'Smile' and the 'Amulet' series). Each story is based on a 'mystery box', but the stories are otherwise unrelated to the others. The illustrations are very different in style from story to story, but are otherwise beautiful. The stories are a little short in length, but with illustrations this good it's hard to complain! Overall I was very impressed by this book and would highly recommend it, especially to any young readers interested in trying out graphic novels.
graphic short stories

The Explorer series includes graphic short stories (rather than graphic novels), based on a theme. They serve as a good entree into graphic novels for younger readers (e.g. middle grades). The theme for this volume is mystery boxes. The first one reminded me of a creepy novel about a doll that haunts multiple generations (the name of which escapes me right now!)
P55. Boy invites ogre/Minotaur to go out into the world with him. Ogre/Minotaur replies: "Oh, no thank you. I've spent so much time imagining what things are like outside these walls, there's just no way it could live up to my expectations."
My son would rate this more highly than I would (although he would want more Kibuishi!).
Explorer: The Mystery Boxes submitted by avrogers1 on July 25, 2018, 4:28pm This collection of graphic novel style stories is really well done. They are well organized and I really enjoyed most of them. This anthology of stories is better suited for younger readers!
