Face-to-face with an actual relationship with his once virtual girlfriend, Calvin must now decide whether to pen this love story or let it write itself.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Movie for writers submitted by crazypockets on June 19, 2013, 4:44pm "Ruby Sparks" looks at the relationship between a writer and his characters in a unique way. I liked the overall concept, but some parts were a little too disturbing. I did feel better about them though once I read about the movie and realized that the actress who plays Ruby also wrote the screenplay, and she wrote it specifically to critique the device of the "manic pixie dream girl" that's becoming so popular in movies today. I thought this film did a fantastic job of doing just that.

This movie is the answer to those movies like "Garden State" that though perhaps unintentional, still manage to degrade women into an accessory to a man's life. Ruby is her own person with her own evolution and path in life, not a tool for Calvin to use to better himself. An honest look at the post-feminist relationship.

ssssssucks.... submitted by Kikumatsu97 on June 22, 2015, 7:09pm So Masogynistic. Don't let your daughters watch.

Not very good submitted by bookher on August 6, 2015, 6:01pm Agree w/the other two reviewers... I couldn't even finish this movie because it was so annoying.

Quirky submitted by mandevil on February 21, 2016, 11:04am An interesting film, I think some reviewers missed the point. When a man can mold every action of thier mate they become disappointed because with all original thought and action controlled there is nothing worth interacting with.

Couldn't finish it submitted by KOH on August 13, 2017, 10:14am I like the actors, but ironically for a movie about a writer, the storytelling is just terrible. Skip this one.

Provoking submitted by ferielp on August 16, 2018, 11:42pm The movie doesn't make an outright declaration of how abusive it is to alter everything about your partner to suit yourself. However, that's fairly obvious with the pain Ruby is in - although to people who actively change their partners the subtext will be lost.

lame, with the lamest actors too. submitted by Tassos on October 19, 2019, 7:06am see sth else
