Originally released as a motion picture in 1942.
Agnes Moorehead, Anne Baxter, Joseph Cotten, Dolores Costello.
A brilliant, moving portrayal of an aristocratic American family in what many critics consider a masterpiece equal to Citizen Kane. Based on a novel by Booth Tarkington, the drama begins in the 1870s when the Amberson family is at the height of its wealth and prestige. But the day arrives when all the Ambersons are stunned by the truth of their financial ruin.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Good acting -strange story submitted by mandevil on January 18, 2022, 8:43am Great performance by Joseph Cotton

A distant land submitted by tarascon on October 31, 2023, 1:14pm Underrated and largely unseen (imo). Here one can watch Welles further develop his cinematic skills. The film’s like an overture to his later work; for example, the shifting cross-talk, the background action, and the camera movement during the opening dance scene seems like a prelude to the amazing tracking shot of “Touch of Evil.”
Highly recommended.
