At the turn of the 20th century in a rural stretch of the Pacific Northwest, a gentle solitary orchardist, Talmadge, tends to apples and apricots. Then two feral, pregnant girls and armed gunmen set Talmadge on an irrevocable course not only to save and protect but to reconcile the ghosts of his own troubled past.

Life Story with all kinds of emotions. submitted by jgetty on March 27, 2021, 11:35am I got this book after seeing it recommended somewhere. It's an adult book. It was the life story of a man (the orchardist) and all the life events that happened to him, and also the life stories of each of the people in his life including American Indians. The story had periods of calm beautiful nature scenes, then periods of action and upheaval and mental illness. There were revelations of the tragic, sordid (if that is the word, maybe others) background of the girls' past. But overall, it was an epic saga of life and family, ups and downs, tragedy and happiness, hopes and dreams, tough reality, and beautiful descriptions and feelings of the landscape with orchards. I enjoyed the book, though I feel a little bit exhausted from it, but it was a good story and very interesting.
