Fantastic Book! submitted by amanda1655 on July 20, 2014, 6:46pm Brooks' memoir explores what it was like to grow up as a Mormon girl in California in the 1970s and 80s. As one of the few people of her faith in her community, Brooks felt like a "root beer" in a sea of "cokes." Although she eventually moved to Utah, her sense of alienation did not end. Instead, she discovered that her feminism and deep belief in equality placed her outside of the Mormon community as well. The book is well written and poignant.
