"When wild and mage together come, one in six or six in one. Empires rise or empires fall, the unborn child begins it all."
So an Imperial (the rival empire) Soothsyer said some mumbo-jumbo and the crazy emperor holds on to every word of it. What is this supposed to mean? Since it's so vague, no one really knows what it really means. The emperor doesn't want to lose power, so he ordered his soldiers to capture six pregnant mages in Aydori. Andori is ruled by the Hunt Pack (werewolves) and Mage-pack (something like witches and wizards in air, fire, water, earth, metal, or healing). You have to be really a powerful mage for the Hunt Pack to be interested in you. It's a honorable thing (and raises social standing). While the daughter of a banker and a social-climbing mother Mirian Maylin is forced to attract one of the hunt pack, there's a more urgent problem to face. She saw five mages, including the wife of the pack leader, captured by the enemy. She ventures to the front of the battlefield to report, but is captured by the Imperials. The Pack leader's brother helps her escape and try to save the mages.
I liked the book because it mixed fantasy and science fiction together. SCIENCE!!! The plot and adventure was interesting. When I was reading this book, I felt that I was on a vacation in the woods somewhere.
Thomas is ok. He's an average love interest; I think he's just a boy and Mirian needs a man.
