A Little Bit of Mystery, a Lot of Character submitted by Meginator on July 11, 2021, 12:25pm This is the rare slice-of-life film that somehow isn’t boring. The plot lightly revolves around the mystery of a small-town Texas sheriff who went missing decades prior, but the film is actually about the many intersecting communities and characters who live along the Rio Grande, and especially about the relationships between adult children and their parents. Each member of the ensemble cast delivers a knockout performance, lending the script its necessary subtlety and making the audience care about the characters as much as the core mystery. This film won’t be for everyone, but I really enjoyed its examination of a tightly knit border community and its relationship to the past.
