Universal Class Conflicts

The thing I loved most about this movie (besides the stellar acting) was the way it reminded me that all people, all over the world are essentially the same. It seems like Iran is villified so much these days in America, so it was wonderful to watch a movie about peoples' day to day lives and remember that the people of the country are just like us. They're just people trying to balance work and family life, take care of each other, and navigate societal expectations. The father's beautiful treatment and respect for his elderly father, the marriage complications the strain that kind of intense in-home care can cause, and the misunderstandings and prejudices associated with class differences were all fascinating.

Strong Minimal Drama

A note-perfect unfolding of events that creates suspense between the lives of two families, whose relationships would typically be kept much more cleanly separated by class and cultural barriers.
