"A Golden book."
"Sesame St."--Cover.
Grover worries page by page about meeting the monster at the end of this book. Many, many adults name this book as their favorite Little Golden Book. Generations of kids have interacted with lovable, furry old Grover as he begs the reader not to turn the page-for fear of a monster at the end of the book. "Oh, I am so embarrassed," he says on the last page ... for, of course, the monster is Grover himself! ...

Love it! submitted by Zekicmom on June 24, 2013, 7:17pm Always a favorite with me and my siblings growing up. Cute story of Grover having very relatable fears of a monster, but don't worry, there's a happy ending.
Don't turn the page! submitted by tbbrown76 on July 22, 2014, 8:01am I told you not to. :)
Wonderful! submitted by betsywil on August 22, 2014, 8:34am My kids loved this book. It's one to keep forever.
You Turned the Page! submitted by FlowerPots on July 30, 2015, 12:45am This was a favorite of mine when young, and it still makes me smile. It lends itself particularly well to being read aloud - with silly voices required of course! :)
Kids love it! submitted by mickplu on August 22, 2016, 7:18pm You will be asked to read this 1 million times before the average toddler is bored!
Maybe you do not understand!

You see, turning pages will bring ever more giggles as kids relish the schadenfraude of poor Grover's distress.
This is one of a couple dozen books from my childhood that I bought for my own library soon after my oldest was born. It never gets old.
Spoiler Alert: There's a Monster at the End of the Book submitted by Meginator on August 24, 2020, 9:09pm What a timeless delight this book is! I suspect it would work even for readers who aren’t familiar with Grover’s anxious personality, but for those of us who grew up (or, indeed, are growing up) with Sesame Street’s beloved classic characters it is truly a joy to see Grover confront the inevitable as the reader ominously hurries the book toward its deliciously ironic conclusion. The interplay between book, character, and reader is fantastic and the humor works on numerous levels for readers of all ages even, or perhaps especially after, the ending is known. What is it that propels us forward, despite our host’s increasingly desperate pleas and schemes? What destructive spirit lurks within us, even from childhood, filling us with gleeful, cackling mirth as we watch poor furry, loveable old Grover suffer at the hands of our godlike machinations? Okay, maybe the book isn’t nearly as dark or deep as that, but I do think it says something interesting about anxiety and about the importance of finding courage, and a friend, when facing the unknown, which may not be so scary after all. Any way you slice it, this is an all-time classic, with some surprising depth beneath a deceptively simple premise, and it belongs on every bookshelf.
a favorite for two generations submitted by Helengio on June 18, 2023, 9:44pm My son loves this book just as much as I did growing up.
Best Monster submitted by DL on July 21, 2023, 1:16pm Love the lengths Grover goes to stop people from getting to the end of the book. Fun book for young kids.
