Pete the cat loves the buttons on his shirt so much that he makes up a song about them, and even as the buttons pop off, one by one, he still finds a reason to sing.

groovy story submitted by manz on July 5, 2012, 1:29pm Here's a groovy little Pete story. I LOVED the first Pete The Cat book- I Love My White Shoes. But I Was a little underwhelmed with the follow-up book: Pete The Cat- Rocking in My School Shoes.

But Four Groovy Buttons! Yes. It works. And the preschoolers dig it. I mean, there's a belly button in it! And a catchy song that's all gooooood.

Great preschool counting book submitted by beeniepie on July 19, 2013, 3:28am My son learned how to do one to one counting from reading this book. Not only was it an entertaining read, but very educational.

Pete the Cat submitted by ks1287 on July 26, 2013, 3:55pm The Pete the Cat series is a great collection of children's books! My daughter can't get enough of the catchy tunes and fun illustrations, and I love that there's a free download of the books on the publisher's website. This book is also great for practicing counting and even basic subtraction for older kids.

Counting Book for Preschoolers submitted by xiwang on July 28, 2013, 4:06pm This is a great learn-how-to-count book for preschoolers. Good illustrations, an entertaining read, and great for developing counting skills.

Pete the Cat submitted by jarroyo on June 24, 2015, 8:12am My children and I really love the Pete the Cat series and this book does not disappoint. This is a very fun read. The book isn't long (it's a pretty quick and easy read), but is very entertaining and fun.

NIce submitted by radha_sarma_srinivas on August 9, 2015, 9:24am Colorful book.

It's All Good submitted by Sara W on August 24, 2015, 11:26am Because the message of Pete's positive attitude and his ability to just go with the flow, I kind of forget that this book deals with counting. What a bonus! This is one of the few counting books I have encountered that deals with counting down and introduces the concept of subtraction in such basic steps. But aside from that, the message of Pete losing things he loves and just rolling with it is a great role model for toddlers. We repeat the "Did he cry about it? Goodness no!" mantra regularly to try and reinforce that things come and things go and it's all good.

Pete's attitude is really excellent behavior modeling and the tone of the story makes it easy to read and listen along. The repetition makes it possible for your listener to jump in know what comes next, and the math concept components are given sold attention, but in my book, they are just the cherry on top of everything else this excellent book offers to a little kid.

Great Math Book submitted by elsbetherin on August 28, 2015, 6:07pm This book is a wonderful math and literacy connection. The kids are already big fans of Pete by the time we use this in school so they are fully engaged in a wonderful numeracy lesson. We also do great art projects to go with this book!

Great! submitted by MikiMiki on July 26, 2016, 3:13pm My 3-year-old daughter loves Pete, and she wants to sing the song in this book everyday!

:) submitted by Xris on August 3, 2017, 4:26pm The kids at summer preschool love reading/listening this book, along with making art and snacks to go with the book. We use it as an example for crying...."Did Pete cry? Goodness no!"

Good Pete submitted by anupamap on June 21, 2019, 1:11pm Pete is a good role model for children. Pete doesn't cry or get mad when something bad happens. He just adapts to it and keeps cool.

Counting with Pete submitted by Richard Lee Pierre on August 18, 2019, 12:48pm The song is really catchy and kids will love it.

Hilarious and good lesson submitted by kittenkat101 on June 27, 2020, 9:45pm This book is great for the younger crowd. Helps children learn counting, basic addition skills, and coping skills as Pete loses his buttons one by one. I could read this to my PreK class every day and they wouldn't get tired of it.

Awesome! submitted by Rumshaker13 on June 29, 2020, 3:22pm Great book, highly recommend these!
