Overview of intensive agriculture -- How mini-farming works for you -- Raised beds -- Soil composition and maintenance -- Compost -- Plant nutrients in-depth -- Time and yield -- Watering and irrigation -- Crop proportions and sizing -- Pest and disease control -- Seed starting -- Selecting and saving seed -- Season extension -- Fruit trees and vines -- Raising chickens for eggs -- Raising chickens for meat -- The Markham farm chicken plucker -- Public domain thresher designs -- Preserving the harvest -- Selling your produce -- Putting it all together.
Mini Farming describes a holistic approach to small-area farming that will show you how to produce 85 percent of an average family's food on just a quarter acre -- and earn $10,000 in cash annually while spending less than half the time that an ordinary job would require. Even if you have never been a farmer or a gardener, this book covers everything you need to know to get started: buying and saving seeds, starting seedlings, establishing raised beds, soil fertility practices, composting, pest and disease problems, crop rotation, farm planning, and much more. Because self-sufficiency is the objective, subjects such as raising backyard chickens and home canning are also covered. Materials, tools, and techniques are detailed with photographs, tables, diagrams, and illustrations. - Publisher.

Nice quick read submitted by seadocks on July 28, 2013, 11:46am This is a good overview. There are other books out there that og much more in depth, but if you are arm chairing it and just want some basic idea instigation then this is probably a good book for you, if you have no experience with any of this then check it out you will get a lot from it. If you have been gardening and raising animals before you might not get as much out of this. I enjoyed reading it and learned a few things I didn't already know from books I own so it was a good check out.

love it submitted by thesrays on August 14, 2018, 9:30pm I really enjoyed this book as I'd like to move our home toward more sustainable use of our sub-urban lawn. This was a great move in that direction.

Great Reference submitted by caburr47 on July 17, 2021, 9:34pm This book has such a bunch of good information. And also offers helpful references for further reading.
