Haunting, beautiful story
submitted by sdunav on June 17, 2012, 8:55pm
This is an amazing, beautifully written short book that I'm afraid may be overlooked because it's classified as a Teen or YA book.
It's the story of two women - Sophie, whose mother hides her from the No Good, moving frequently, homeschooling, and not allowing them to have any outside attachments. And then there's Emmy, a young mother who's lost her baby. Baby was taken from her cradle outside when Emmy stepped indoors (just 14 steps) to get a blanket.
The characters are memorable, the story begs to be revealed, the suspense and heartbreak are intense, and the writing is so poetic - I can't wait to read more by Kephart.
Haunting, beautiful Take 2

I agree totally with the reviewer above.
Also, I can't wait for the day when 'Teen Books' are not overlooked for being classified as 'Teen Books'
A missing child and the heartache and pursuit of the mother on the one hand,
along side Sophie and her Mother, a twosome, sequestered from the 'No Goods' on the other.
The reader is guided along from the beginning to suspect that the alternating voices in the story are the missing child and her Mother.
So the plot is presented straight away, but oh the marvelous characters and the poetic language
that delivers them to us are unforgettable.
