Not what I was expecting, but it was a good surprise submitted by nemiller on July 19, 2021, 9:38pm Based on the description, I thought it was going to be more of an analysis of modern (well, modern from 10 years ago) China. It ended up being more like, part Cultural-Revolution-for-Beginners, part memoir-with-political-context.

I listened to the audiobook on overdrive, but I would actually recommend reading the printed version instead. The reader, Don Hagen, reads the whole book with the same detached, faintly-amused tone, which kind of flattened the stories.
