Stick Man ends up far away from his family tree when he is fetched by a dog, thrown by a child, used as a snowman's arm, and even put in a fireplace, but finally Santa Claus steps in to make sure that Stick Man and his family have a joyous Christmas.

kind of okay submitted by fairytale on August 29, 2013, 8:17pm This book was kind of funny, kind of interesting, and definitely unexpected.
pretty good submitted by kkellis on July 14, 2018, 9:30pm A pretty good picture book. Who knew how dangerous it is to be a stick?!
Interesting take onsticks submitted by thomasgoldring on July 25, 2018, 8:21pm Julia Donaldson is the best. The illustrations give a lot of visual cues to what the feelings are behind the story.
Delightful submitted by jessicampace on August 1, 2018, 10:08am As the Donaldson/Scheffler team always are! Love the animated short by this name as well.
The Many Forms of a Single Stick(Man) submitted by Meginator on July 10, 2020, 5:33pm This is a clever book that encourages readers to think creatively about the world around them (in this case, the many potential uses of seemingly mundane sticks) while telling a compelling character-driven story. The final twist feels slightly far afield, but it should work for the book’s primary audience. Julia Donaldson’s text uses varied but repeated rhythms, making it a great choice for reading aloud, and Axel Scheffler’s illustrations show the dark humor of Stick Man’s various predicaments, though one image does show an apparently white character in offensive stereotypical Indigenous dress. The book isn’t perfect, but it does have a lot of charm.
Amazing read submitted by SNG on June 27, 2023, 10:18am One of my kid's favourite book
