Fun, Quick Reinterpretations submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2020, 1:03pm As the title suggests, this anthology consists of brief comics illustrating familiar nursery rhymes, and as such it is a series of rapid-fire hits well-suited for those with short attention spans. Because the nursery rhymes will be familiar to many readers, this is an excellent book for an early foray into graphic storytelling: each author brings their own visual style and interpretive framework to the source material, illustrating a range of ways in which artwork can contribute to a narrative. The artists draw surprising depth from these well-known sing-song poems, simultaneously exploring the nuances of this type of folklore and the broad possibilities of graphic narratives; a few stretch the meaning of the original versions to their limits, often with a gallant sense of humor. I thoroughly enjoyed this anthology and highly recommend it for readers of all ages.
