"With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie Stackhouse witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover, Eric Northman, and his "child" Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot--which is much more complicated than she knows. Caught up once again in the politics of the vampire world, Sookie will learn that she is as much of a pawn as any ordinary human--and that there is a new queen on the board..."

Sookie Stackhouse
submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 17, 2013, 11:42am
The eleventh of Charlaine Harris' 12 Southern Vampire Mysteries, "Dead Reckoning" continues the adventures of part-fairy psychic waitress Sookie Stackhouse in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana.
In this one, Sookie asks someone to break her blood bond with Eric, although the two are still in love. Sookie must (yet again) survive an assassination attempt but get involved in one to kill a vampire.
Read the first ten Sookie books or you'll never understand the numerous, complex plot lines in this novel. Don't expect a nice, neat, complete ending, either. Even her 12th novel in the series does not give us that. The 13th and last ties up most of the plot lines but leaves much to be desired.
The Sookie books are not great literature, but they are fun.
