Waiting for W

V is for Vengeance was not my favorite Sue Grafton mystery. Involving shoplifters, organized crime, and murder - it's a little tightly packed. And Kinsey falls into it all by pure coincidence. I prefer to see her doing her job rather than getting into a jam through her curiosity - she's not Curious George, she'a s kick-ass private eye with great instincts!
The use of flashbacks interspersed with present-day narration that I found to be an interesting device when she started it a few books ago is getting old for me. I liked discovering information through Kinsey's eyes, but now the reader sometimes knows more than Kinsey does at a given moment. That can be frustrating.
This book just seemed a little more disjointed and the denouement a little more forced. Of course I won't give up on Kinsey or Sue Grafton, I just hope she's saving some of her old spark to make her last few books in the series shine the way the earliest entries in the alphabet series did.
A good letter submitted by mjanen on July 12, 2014, 9:40pm Fairly standard Kinsey fair, but satisfying.
