More of the Parasol Protectorate submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on July 20, 2013, 1:53am Alexia Tarabotti, Lady Woolsey, continues to solve mysteries in this fourth of five Parasol Protectorate books. Although now a married woman in Victorian London, Alexia still refuses to play society's games that demand a woman act weak and defer to their husbands. Alexia is far more interested in saving herself--and Great Britain--from supernatural threats and protecting Queen Victoria.
In this book, a mad ghost threatens the queen. Alexia is a preternatural (a soulless being who is the opposite of supernatural creatures and can instead turn them human while she touches them), so she is the ideal candidate to solve the case. Her gay and lesbian friends (positively portrayed in a Victorian setting) help her.
I highly recommend this series, especially to anyone who enjoys steampunk and/or fantasy. The plot keeps readers turning the pages.
Be forewarned, some parts are a tad risque. If it were a movie, it would be rated "R."

As good as the rest submitted by Princess Cimorene on July 23, 2021, 4:33pm Alexia's adventures are highly entertaining and this intallment is no exception. Humor, action, ridiculous paranormal beings...what more could you ask for from a book?
