Interesting story but unlikeable characters submitted by KathyD on July 27, 2014, 8:40pm As always, Sharyn McCrumb writes a powerful story. It is interesting to see how she took a tale from a song, did historical research, and developed a plausible version of events. However, most of the characters are unlikeable which is why I gave it only 3 stars.

A striking read submitted by eilusk on June 19, 2022, 8:43pm A cynical and melancholy, but insightful and interesting, sketch of three characters. The section where Ann describes Tom rescuing his dog as a child, and Pauline's quiet internal reaction, has stuck with me for years.
