Caletti's beautiful, painful teen novel looks at the complicated psychological traps of adolescent girls who become trapped in abusive relationships, and find it nearly impossible to extricate themselves from these always-escalating situations that too often have deadly consequences. A good companion to Breathing Underwater, by Alex Flinn, which is a look at date abuse from the boy's POV.
