A classic romance novel with a twist. submitted by lakeabigail on June 15, 2021, 9:26am The Duke & I is a classic romance novel capitalizing on basic romance novel plot structures. The series follows similar arch in each book, but this first novel is still a fun read. I liked the show equal to the book.
Romance Novel submitted by caburr47 on July 17, 2021, 9:16pm I came to learn of this novel because of the Netflix show. Honestly the show has given these characters better development than the book. You really only get know Daphne, obviously the book focuses on her story, but you really don't get to know much about her siblings to want to get to know their story.

A quick read. Differs from the show on several points, either because they are actually different, or because the show includes details from later books. The queen, for example, does not add any pressure for Daphne to marry her nephew; nor does she prevent their getting a special license.
Simon and Daphne's interest in each other is written to be much more definitive, by virtue of writing out their thoughts explicitly, whereas the show allows for a bit more ambiguity in how they think of each other.
Contains lemons/limes, as one would expect from a plot that hinges on the question of child begetting.
It was interesting to read the afterword and realize that Lady Whistledown was created specifically for infodump purposes.
Best part: Simon’s difficulties with speech made him consider what he would say before saying it, speak only if he felt what he had to say mattered, and take care in choosing only the companions he was comfortable around - all of which gave him a reputation for being witty, discriminating, and generally more intriguing than he would have been otherwise. Fantastic.
Book much better than season 1 submitted by bjkoch on July 15, 2022, 1:45pm prime example of the book being better than the show
Wanted to Like it More submitted by emroon on July 15, 2022, 2:20pm Based on my love is the show, I wanted to love this more. I get like the book took itself too seriously, the show was much more fun. Some of the romance scenes were a bit cringey, but I enjoyed it. Wished there was more of thr Bridgerton family!
A fun read submitted by asrecker on July 15, 2023, 11:45am I read the book after watching the Netflix series. This is a rare occasion where I like the show and the book equally!
