The Penderwicks submitted by bacolorm on July 11, 2011, 8:11pm The Penderwicks at Point Mouette is a heartwarming and well written story. Rosalind is given a break from being OAP (Oldest Available Penderwick) when she goes on vacation with a friend. This gives Skye the responsibilities of being the OAP, though she isn't sure if she can bear it. But before she knows it the sisters, minus Rosalind, are off with Aunt Claire to Point Mouette. The place Jane thinks is the perfect setting for an aspiring writer, Skye thinks is perfect for disaster, and Batty misses Rosalind. The plot is well balanced with bad things and good. I once again enjoyed reading about the wonderful Jeffrey and his unknown history. Through heartbreak and injuries, the Penderwicks continue to triumph.

Fabulous Seris! submitted by drewy234432 on August 8, 2011, 8:15am The Penderwicks series is getting better by the book!!!

another great Penderwick adventure submitted by jayin on June 21, 2012, 7:54pm If you have been following the adventures of the Penderwick sisters, you MUST read this. If you have not, first start and the beginning and come to this one later. These books are delightful, innocent, full of wonderful characters you are glad to spend some time with and just plain fun.

Penderwick Family Honor submitted by shalinigurl on July 6, 2012, 10:36am i love this book even though i'm not a fan of realistic fiction i am a huge fan of this series. It's really cool that they have a Penderwick Family Honor that they have to follow and pledge once in a while. I love this book and I recommend this book to everyone!

Incredible submitted by Motomori on July 15, 2013, 3:54pm Incredible!!!! This is one of those series that doesn't go downhill after every book, which is why I think that it will suit everyone of all ages!!!!

Best Book Ever! submitted by csickma on June 17, 2014, 11:35am This is my favorite book since I was five. I didn't think I would love it, but then I did!

The Penderwicks third adventure submitted by AJ Chen on August 18, 2014, 1:13pm The Penderwick Family is getting torn apart. So it's of to New Jersey for Rosiland ,and of to Point Mouette for the others. And Skye is OAP (Oldest Available Penderwick) Aunt Claire sprains an ankle, then Jane (The backup OAP) smacks herself in the nose with a paper-weight rock. And Jeffrey Tifton joins them for a wonderful trip at Point Mouette.

Great series submitted by ecronin on August 8, 2016, 7:58pm This is a great series.

Fantastic submitted by lpettie on June 15, 2018, 10:22pm Love this series. Reads like a classic.

Book 2 is just as good... submitted by mbruno on June 21, 2018, 9:18pm This entire series is a delight to read. Also perfect for summer reading since these are both set as unique summer vacations. I particularly enjoyed the shifts and growth in the family, the familiar characters we get to know at varying depths, and the authors use of serious life struggles in the mix of all the light hearted humor. Thumbs way up, especially for 3rd through 5th graders.

The Penderwicks at Point Mouette: A Book Review submitted by yanxia cao on July 20, 2020, 10:51am After an adventure in Arundel where the four sisters meet Jeffrey and the arrival of Iantha and her son Ben, the Penderwick family is off to go on another adventure this time in Maine, England, and New Jersey. Iantha, Mr. Penderwick and Ben are off to England on their honeymoon. Rosalind is in New Jersey with her friend Anna. The rest of the Penderwick sisters are traveling to Maine with their Aunt Claire with Jeffrey, with Skye as the OAP, Oldest Available Penderwick in charge.
As they settle in their cozy cottage near the ocean, Skye realizes that she lost the list that had everything that Rosalind and Mr. Penderwick would do. What would she do if Batty drowned? What if Batty blew up? What would Rosalind do?
Jane is starting her new book starring Sabrina Starr, this time instead of Sabrina Starr rescuing a boy or any other animal, Sabrina Starr is finding love. To research love, she writes a love survey and asks everyone around her. When she meets the alluring Domonic, her next door neighbor, she experiences love for the first time, and realizes love isn’t all what it seems.
No one part of the Penderwick family can carry a tune, and everyone is surprised when Batty picks up the Harmonica and Piano so quickly.
Jeffrey, after finally convincing his mother to vacation at Point Mouette, meets Alec, who also loves music. Alec, the next door neighbor plays multiple instruments, and lets Jeffrey play his piano. Other than their love for music, they also have someone else in common, first a thought, then a hunch, then the truth.
SPOILER ALERT:
I rate this book a 6 out of 10 stars. I think that this book is so much better than the first two. While reading, I wasn’t bored and read it only because it is a classic, but because the book was actually decent. Nothing aggravated me, and nothing annoyed me, except for Dexter and Mrs. Tifton. I do still think that the way they act and talk seems a bit unrealistic. They suddenly fully trust their neighbor, a total stranger, to take care of four kids after Aunt Claire sprains her foot. The moment they meet someone new, they become best friends with them.
The book goes very slowly, and no matter what happens to them, they always have a happy ever after ending. I feel like all of the characters are either perfect, great, kind, selfless, and an all- around great person, or they are terrible, mean, selfish, dramatic, hatred by everyone, and a horrible person. That doesn’t happen in real life. Life is not black and white, like this story has portrayed it. No one is always perfect and kind, and no one is always selfish and horrible. It is focused on just Jane’s love issues and Skye’s responsibility problems too much. I wish that the author talked about all of the characters.
It was also odd to me that Skye, who is twelve years old, has to take care of everyone and everything. Jane, who is eleven, should be able to take care of herself, she is only a year younger than Skye. Skye also freaks out about the smallest things. She needs to chill. Also, for Alec to just trust Skye to take care of Batty, Jeffrey, Jane, Hound, and Aunt Claire is mindblowing. An adult expects a child to be in charge of so much. Someone should've stepped in and said, “You are twelve. Enjoy your vacation and stop stressing.”
Isn’t it weird that miraculously, their next-door neighbor is Jeffrey’s father? That seems too good to be true. Then, Jeffrey was mad at the end when he realized that Alec was his father. I don't understand why that would be Alec’s fault. Isn’t it Mrs. Tifton’s fault? She hid him from his father, who is a great guy and enjoys what he enjoys. The only reason that this book has so many good reviews, in my opinion, is because the first one in the series won the National Book Award. They are seemingly forced to like and read it, just because it is connected to that first award-winning book.

Keep Getting Better submitted by kathscot on August 16, 2021, 6:37pm The adventures of the three younger Penderwicks and their friend Jeffrey in Maine. Skye and Jane have lots of funny adventures and Jeffrey gets a huge surprise. These books keep getting better.
