Great Book submitted by janaejwhite on July 1, 2011, 3:00pm I liked how the author put a normal person out in the middle of pirates. There's a great plot and so much unexpected twists; this is a must read!
Really good read submitted by ehm on July 9, 2013, 11:43am I really like this book! I don't normally like books about pirates (or fencing)but I liked this one!
Historical perspective of women and pirates submitted by dorothyyli on June 16, 2015, 7:18am I had this book on my list for a while. The genre is young adult which is not to my taste. This one is fine since it was not filled with melodrama fueled by hormones and perceived slights. It's an interesting fantasy story set in the 1800s with pirates, slave ships and when fencing was not a sport but a way to kill. The growth of Jill in this book is what makes the book good. Ms. Vaughn is a new to me author who creates a good fantasy. Her writing style is easy to follow and her world building is decent.
