The Reading Promise submitted by emelcher on July 13, 2011, 10:22am This is a wonderful account of the author's growing up. When she was in Fourth grade her dad started reading aloud to her every night for a challenge to last 100 nights. They ended up reading every night for eight years with the last day being her first day at college. I knew I would love them, when they went out for pancakes to celebrate making the 100 day challenge. The book was very touching in the end when the father retired from being an elementary school librarian when the school removed all the books from the school library and turned it into a computer center. I can't say enough how much I love and appreciate the Ann Arbor Public Library and all that it offers. I love the book selection and the online ordering process. I have attended many, many wonderful programs at the library - dance troops, lectures on health, travel shows, poetry cafe. The only disappointment in this book for me was that they did not keep a list of all the books they read. The author listed as many of the books as she could recall at the back of the book. I have a log of the books I have read since 1977.
