Sumptuous style, slightly importuned by story submitted by Peter Kooger on July 12, 2011, 9:14am Do you like marble statues? Do you like white curtains blowing in the wind? Do you like shafts of sunlight cutting through a darkened room to illuminate the flock of doves bursting into flight? Do you like vampires and blood? If so, you will probably enjoy this movie. It’s extremely stylistic, to the point where plot seems to be a necessary evil holding together the many vignettes of cold beauty. I kind of loved it.

Interesting submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 29, 2012, 12:48pm Fast forward through the first few minutes of this movie that just show monkeys for some reason that is probably artistic but really has little to do with the plot. Then, we get to the good part, about a human doctor who figures out that her patient's "wife" is actually a vampire sucking him dry. Soon enough Susan Sarandon's character gets involved with this vampire.

Interestingly, Catherine Deneuve did not want to be in the love scene with Susan Sarandon, so you actually see the former's body double in that scene.

For a movie made in the early 1980s, it's actually not a bad portrayal of gays and stars opens bisexual David Bowie.

An Experiment In Vampires submitted by Fevvers - STAR473 on July 11, 2015, 12:50am Gory, surreal, sexy, weird. Amazing performances by Catherine Devenue, Susan Sarandon, and David Bowie as vampires and a mortal caught in a love triangle with varying positions of power. If it wasn't so unique and strange, it could veer into camp (it probably does for some people), but I find it magical.

This 1983 movie was the spawn of MTV! submitted by ccrose on July 20, 2019, 1:56pm MTV was launched in 1981, a whole new form for musicians plus movie directors. I’ll bet that’s why it is so...self-conscious! Every scene is filled with carefully planned shots, like the monkey blood. Huh? What I really liked was seeing a young Susan Sarandon. And David Bowie without his early identities. So it came from those early MTV experiments with slow walks across a room, closeups that are painterly. And the story? Well, you’ll need to be willing to hang on...a long time.

worthless, pretentious garbage. this is not even a movie. Deneuve is wasted here. It's so bad, it's UNWATCHABLE. submitted by Tassos on May 13, 2021, 5:47pm Worthless, pretentious garbage. this is not even a movie. Deneuve is wasted here. It's so bad, it;s UNWATCHABLE.
