The relationship formed between two misfits one summer shows how life-changing friends can be. Verbena needed to be someone else and her new-found friend allowed her do to this.

This new information makes her question and brings insight to why she has trouble doing some things. Eleven is a hard age when your friend finds someone else and you are alone.
